2013 Boom Box Parade
2013 Boom Box Parade

Willimantic's "Boom Box Parade" concept was born after no band could be found for Windham's Memorial Day Parade in 1986 so WILI plays the marching band music on the air, while thousands march and watch, loudly playing their radios or boom boxes

An Evening Stroll: Summer in the City
An Evening Stroll: Summer in the City

And in August, summer evenings are twice as long. This past Friday was a perfect summer evening to explore downtown on foot. We passed businesses filled with happy patrons, smelled the churning of river water, heard music pouring out of the First Baptist Church and ended the evening with a cold beverage on a quiet patio at a neighborhood bar . Pretty awesome way to welcome the weekend. (Photos courtesy of Winter Caplanson, Photojournalist for Willimantic Downtown.)
