In WWII Joe Keller and Steve Deever ran a machine shop that made airplane parts for the army. When the shop turns out defective parts, Keller and Deever are tried and sent to prison, but Keller gets his conviction overturned and even makes a lot of money. His crimes come back to haunt him when his son is reported MIA and Deever's son returns from the war to find his father wronged by Keller.
