Now through November 27, 2018, Access Community Action Agency and the Northeast Coordinated Access Network (NECAN) are accepting donations for the “Be Homeful” project, a Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness (CCEH) campaign to end family homelessness in our region and around the state, for #GivingTuesday. Access and the NECAN, a network of Emergency Shelters in Northeast CT, has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 27, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. Now through mid-December, a gift will make an extra impact as our friends at the CT REALTORS® Foundation will gift an adorable Paddington™ plush bear, book, or blankie to a child in or at the front door of family emergency shelters with a donation of $25 or more in the donor’s honor. $1,000 is the average amount required to prevent a family from becoming homeless, so for every $1K raised, you will help a family with young children stay in the comfort of home. That means for every 40 bears you “raise”, at least one family will not know the hardship of homelessness. This is the third year Access and the NECAN teamed up with CCEH and with the funds raised last year, Access’s Emergency Shelter was able to divert 12 families including 20 adults and 27 children from homelessness. Please help a family in need by donating or starting your own “bear-raiser” #GivingBearsDay. Your gift can make all the difference! This online fundraiser allows nonprofit organizations like Access to raise funds online to end family homelessness in Northeastern Connecticut. About #GivingTuesday #GivingTuesday is a movement to celebrate and provide incentives to give—the 2018 iteration will be held on November 27, 2018. This effort harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—nonprofits, businesses and corporations as well as families and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they celebrate and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media to create a global movement dedicated to giving around the world.
